Title: Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply chain, Transport and Logistics Plus (EN.I.R.I.S.S.T+)

Brief Description: It concerns the expansion of the National Research Infrastructure (EN.I.R.I.S.S.T.) into the fields of shipping, supply chain, and transportation. It combines data collection and processing (ensuring privacy and intellectual property rights), the creation of innovative models and programming techniques, the development of useful, secure, and user-friendly applications, and finally the development of digital observatories aimed at supporting stakeholders in the public and private sectors (businesses, public entities, research organizations, etc.). In this way, the vision of EN.I.R.I.S.S.T. Plus is to become a center of excellence that promotes and supports research in the scientific fields of shipping, supply chain, and transportation.

Key objective: Within the framework of the project implementation, Democritus University of Thrace, under the scientific supervision and guidance of Professor and Head of the Department of Economics, Mr. Dimitrios Dimitriou (Scientific Coordinator of the DUTH subproject), developed the Interoperability Infrastructure and Networks Observatory (https://enirisst-plus-duth.eu/). The Interoperability Infrastructure and Networks Observatory essentially constitutes an ecosystem of primary and complex data, providing a vast array of services aimed at supporting decision systems and applications for visitor accessibility, business supply chains, evaluation of provided services, and data promotion within the context of accessibility and primarily the Interoperability of critical infrastructures, with a focus on the sensitive region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The main goal of the platform is to feed decision support systems within the context of sustainable and sustainable development of businesses related to accessibility in the Region and the development of digital entrepreneurship tools, to support business plans and assess business opportunities, as well as performance evaluation using a series of performance indicators. The basis of this innovative application is a dynamic platform, developed with the participation of 25 or more researchers and professors from the Democritus University of Thrace, of different specialties. Specifically, the EN.I.R.I.S.S.T+ project expands with a research and business orientation, aiming at interoperability between critical infrastructures in the fields of transportation, supply chain, shipping, and tourism. It serves as an innovative tool for immediate and targeted analysis of cost and performance elements in the supply chain, stimulating entrepreneurship and operational planning in the industry, manufacturing, and services sector. Additionally, within the framework of research results:

  1. a new laboratory was created in the Department of Economics of DUTH titled “Management, Governance, Business Intelligence, Strategy and Corporate Ethics in Infrastructure Operators, Networks and Supply Chain,” with the acronym MaGBISE
  2. new educational programs were developed in collaboration with external bodies (indicatively mentioned: MSc in Project Management in collaboration with Neapolis University Pafos, Unit in Bioethics and Business Ethics (WMA Cooperation Center))
  3. the thematic network of specialists and experts, Vip4Ride – Network of experts (Valuable Investment Projects for Reasonable Infrastructure Development) (https://www.vip4ride.com/index.php/vip4ride) was developed.
